If you haven’t tried a Salt Soap Bar before, you’re in for a treat. These beautiful bars feel like a little spa ritual in your everyday shower, creating a rich, creamy lather that feels silky on the skin while leaving it soft, smooth and refreshed.

Traditionally, salt bars are made with 100% coconut oil and a high superfat of around 20–25% to help offset coconut oil’s strong cleansing nature. While this method is very common, I found it could still leave the skin with that overly “squeaky clean” feeling.

After years of refining and testing, I developed a more balanced formula that creates the bubbly, luxurious lather salt bars are known for, while feeling far more conditioning on the skin. By carefully blending cleansing and nourishing oils, this formula leaves skin feeling clean, comfortable and hydrated after use. I was also able to reduce the superfat to 14%, helping to lower the risk of rancidity while still maintaining a beautifully skin-loving finish.

This formula is beginner-friendly and a wonderful introduction to making salt bars, but it’s helpful to know they do have a few unique quirks. Because of the high coconut oil content, the batter can move quite quickly, although this recipe is more manageable than many traditional salt bar formulas. Cavity moulds are highly recommended, as salt bars set up fast and are much easier to unmould individually. If you choose to use a loaf mould, you’ll need to be ready to cut the soap within around 3–5 hours of pouring, as timing is essential. Salt bars also require a little extra care when cutting to help ensure smooth, clean edges.

The result is a beautifully creamy, spa-like soap bar formula that feels both luxurious and practical — perfect for makers wanting to create something a little special.
