For a long time, I have been asked for a product with Hyaluronic Acid and I am pleased to say at long last, I have one available.
Hyaluronic Acid is known for its hydrating abilities but quite often, it is only able to penetrate the first layers of the skin due to its molecular structure. For this reason, I wanted to create a product that would deliver deeper hydration, hence a Facial Gel.
However, I wanted to steer clear of Xanthan Gum. Although this is a readily accessible thickener and is simple to use, it does have its disadvantages including feeling tacky and not having the best consistency. I started experimenting with Carbomer 980 and although it does still have its challenges, the final product is well worth it.
Carbomer 980 is a little more advanced and does require you to use a 10% sodium hydroxide solution to thicken it. Although that sounds scary, it is simple and safe to achieve a beautiful gel consistency. The other challenge is that not all common preservatives are compatible with Carbomer but I have listed those that are and are not in the formula. I recommend using Euxyl 9010.
If the above concerns you, come and watch me make this gel on YouTube so you can see how easy and safe it is. Watch here!
